The Annum EP is a four track album courtesy of Ashley Sloggett, a sweet voiced guitarist/vocalist from Burlington, Ontario.

The album features acoustically ear pleasing songs such as Solider Slave, The Juicy Fruit Song, Fire & Flood and a bonus track titled Moon.

Sloggett’s sound can be described as an acoustically pleasing, foot stomping mix of upbeat and joyful music accompanied by a delicate voice packed with emotion.

Soldier Slave is the most predominant and popular song from the album, with the singer also creating a music video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KI851q1z2zg) for the tune. The emotion and desire Sloggett packs into every note she belts during Soldier Slave makes the listener want to sing along, weather you are cleaning the house or strolling down the street during a breezy summer day.

The Juicy Fruit Song is more of an upbeat tune accompanied by excellent background piano and electric guitar work courtesy of John Fielding and Ian Mazoof, who helped out Sloggett on the album. The tune bursts with feeling as Sloggett belts lyrics such as, “Believe me when I’m saying I miss you, I miss you, I miss you! I’m sorry I wasn’t around when you needed me most.” The Juicy Fruit Song seems like it could almost be dedicated to a specific person in her life and you can feel her message to that person come across in the song. Despite sad lyrics the tune’s upbeat and “happy go lucky” feel make the listener want to get out their seat and dance around a room.

Fire & Flood breaks away from the first two songs. Sloggett really pushes the limits of her voice by hitting higher notes, while playing an excellent acoustic guitar, but the feel of this tune is nowhere near as pleasant as the previous two songs. The song describes a dream the singer had one night as she explains the terrible acts featured in her mind. The song can arguably be described as the most beautiful song on the album, even though the lyrics may say otherwise.

Sloggett closes out the album with a gorgeous tune by the name of Moon; a bonus track for her adoring fan base. Sloggett’s outstanding singing voice really showcases itself during this track. Her delicate voice breathes passion and enhances the emotion of every word she sings during Moon. Moon is an excellent closing song to The Annum EP.

Overall, The Annum EP by Ashley Sloggett is a warm, sweet and inviting listening experience featuring a talented, soft and entertaining guitarist/vocalist packed with heart-warming emotion. I highly recommend picking up a copy.
